Color matching website

I recall a site mentioned here on SSM about a year ago which had a database of the different manufacturers paints and the FS nos. Can anyone remember what the site was?

That site's closed....

It was from someone on the forums here and had a great search facility rather than just being a table.

How well do the color swatches match the colors in real life? I downloaded the Testor catalog a while back and found that the color swatches were not even close to being reliable for choosing colors.

You can't trust any visual 'colour matching' on a computer monitor. I've spent hundred on calibration software and hardware... it's hard enough with them, if not still impossible in reality. There's too much variation between different monitors, individual settings and lighting conditions. Also, there's the difference between subtractive and additive light models, some of which your monitor will never be able to display...

Ah-yup. The only real way to match is to have an actual color chip and hit the hobby stores looking for a bupe and hoping the stores lighting and color of liquid paint isn't too off from what you want.
