Hello every one; Looking for some advice on lighting the NX-01. I recently purchase 3 of these kits off ebay and I am wanting to light them up. Each one a different version {NX-01, 02, ISS Avenger. I know that VODOO FX carries the lighting kit {kinda expensive} for 3 kits.
How can i light them other than the VO/FX kits and what will I need as far as LEDS etc. Any help would be much appreciated.

One way would be to buy one of those new LED chistmas light strings and cannibalize the LED's out of there. That will only run you about $12.
Another way I found - that I have yet to try - is this lighting strip setup from Ikea. It's four strips of LED's pre-wired and mounted and comes in solid white or switchable among several colors. I was experimenting with it in the store and it looks like it would fit in the 350 scale nacelles - both NX and Refit - pretty well, but I didn't buy one to measure or test fit.

Here's another alternative. It was designed specifically for the 1/350 NX-01 kit. Still could be kinda spendy for 3 kits but I have this one and it's worth every penny.

Moved this over to the electronics forum. . .
LED strips are pretty straight forward, it's the strobe and flashing lights that you probably want a board for, and if you want the subtle rotating background effect in the bussards.
other wise some LED tape is the best bang for the buck:

These can be had from

http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/
And HEB, a China supplier,

but there's a $99 minimum order (1 full reel of LED tape) takes paypal.

Just FYI, that kit works great for NX-01 but is generic enough to work for other large starships as well. There's a less expensive version for "regular" sized starships as well.

Mind if I ask how much was paid for those NX-01s on eBay? I have at least one in the attic still shrinkwrapped and might want to unload it.
That Madman Who Lit Up Deep Space Nine
i can vouch for those, got them and the effect is amazing!!! found a video of it on the web http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... D=33176980 ( don't know if it's the same part but it's the same effect )jwrjr wrote:I make a warp core for the nacelles that is well thought of. A short video is available.
Madman Lighting cost the same as the VoodooFx kit so maybe not a good option either unless he make's you a deal( you ask also ask Randy at VoodooFX), i have the VoodooFX and i'm more than happy but i find the build up info a bit misleading at some point. still, i dosen't regreat a bit spending on it.
Comming back to the basic of the subject. well for the main lighting, nothing hard a few 10 mcd leds will do the job. for the warp engine, it depend on what effect you want... for the nav lights, the cheaper might be to get DLM navboard, works good and Don now provide every thing with it http://dlmparts.com/electronics.html 35$ each + the LEDS
Hope this help a bit!
