Post by lohengrin »

Thank you for your kind offer

With this forum running on auto pilot, the hosting site will be expecting payment soon, if that does not happen everything will be gone forever.

If there are any references or archives members here might want I would strongly suggest you begin downloading them

just to be clear i'm not trying to replace ssm

i just don't want to see another forum community destroyed. only a few are left

i want to give you guys a back up just in case things go bad here

some of the ssm members are already over at ast (i can create an ssm group so you can keep track of ssm members if that helps)

- i don't purge / delete anything
- i can create any forums you want in any format you want
- i check the site at least once every week
- trusted admins are there every day
- the bills are paid by monthly donations
- it's the same forum software

I've blown the dust off of my account there. I signed up a few years ago, but hardly even lurked, but now I've started to post one of my builds there.
If you can make a section similar to Movies, TV, Books and Other Media and 'Thunderdome,' that would be awesome.

There is a section called 'Other S&SF Modelling' that has quite a few Star Wars builds and other sci-fi subjects.

IDK, kind of odd to upload one wallpaper and ignore everything else going on. Like giving a car with a busted head gasket a car wash.

My biggest concern is not that this site is working (barely) but for how long.
Hosting services want to be paid and if that is not done in a timely manner then this place goes dark and all resources are gone.

I am planning on spending some time on this weekend harvesting everything I can just to be on the safe side.

I remember many years ago (AOL Dialup days) my computer went down. It took a couple of weeks to get the parts and repair ir, when I did so I started logging on to my favorite sites and found everything was shut down or content was missing. Turns out when my system was dark Majel Barrett-Roddenberry had gone to all the sites with Trek focus/content and C&D'd them- so much stuff I counted on to always be there was gone for good and I never saved anything since I figured it would always be there...

He probably cannot log on for some reason which he has no control over, or a moderator did the calendar update. Point is we won't know unless John is able to log on again. At least he seems to be aware of the problems and took steps to get thing back to normal around here, or he had a moderator do it.

That sounds like a stretch. I understand it, as we don't have any idea what is going on on his end of things. AFAIK, John has not reached out to anybody, not here nor on the Face, even if to simply say, 'hey, I can't get on, but I'm working the problem. Until then, here's a new wallpaper.'
That little update is just so weird in relation to everything else going wrong.

EDIT

Just checked the What's New page, and scrolling down, I came across this posted between 7/2 and 8/1.
A head's up: we'll be AFK from 3-15 August. The Store will be open, but nothing will ship 'till we get back,
So they went 'somewhere. :-k '

By updating the wallpaper he's letting us know he's still around, at least he knows what's been going on with the forums, As for anything else only time will tell.

Noth8ng says you need to like every trek ship design, personally I think the Defiant looks like a shampoo bottle but I just focus on sharing what I know/like and not rain on anybodies parade...

OT, but I've always liked the thought of a Defiant class rushed into service with a standard pair of nacelles on struts, in place of their tucked in, streamlined versions.

It's not a criticism of the Defiant, I try to enter the name to confirm my humanity for registration and it keeps getting rejected.
