Shiny Black?

I'm working of a ship at the moment..I'm going to paint the cockpit glass black...the tinted glass look

Any tips for getting a real smooth, shiny, black finish on the paint job??

I've done this before with clear plastic ( just painting the back side black)...but this will be on just plain white styrene.

Why not paint it flat black or gloss black and then dip it in future?

Thanks for the reply BALTA1...but the area to be painted is already on the ship...it would be hard to dip the whole thing

I was thinking of spraying it with future...will that get shiny enough??

As long as your surface to be painted is smooth, and clean, a good gloss black paint will do the trick. I can not sing the praises enough of the Tamiya Gloss Black Lacquer (TS-14). Talk about a beautiful finish. It's all about surface prep. The better your surface, the better the finish.

Polishing compound.

There used to be, still may be for all I know, a spray bomb called 'Wet Black' that was the shiniest black I'd ever ran across. May have been eclipsed by the new 'Black Chrome' spray paint.

Numerous layers of Future, hand-brushed should do the job. It's not quite like those glossy black lacquers, but with enough layers it should look great - and you don't have to worry about getting black somewhere it doesn't belong.
