Replacing an electret microphone with direct mono insert?

Here's a weird question, can we replace an electret microphone on a small circuit board with a mono jack insert, so that we can connect directly to an audio output into the circuit board, and record electronic sounds instead of voices?

Say! Replacing the electret microphone on this little circuit with a direct output of a sound source, (mono of course).

Some types of microphone, yes. But not, I think, an electret microphone.

They are not the same voltage levels or range, the line in his a greater 'swing' i'm sure than a micro phone. The electr ones might have greater swing I think they have an amplifing FET in them (as they need to be biased with power). So they two connection types won't talk to each other. If you can find the stage after the microphone audio is beafed up to drive normal circuitry you could add the mono jack there, with some disconnect wires to remove the microphone. Look for an op amp ther is an audio opamp I thinkits and LM356 or 358 can't remeber. They take low audio and pump it up to 500 mW.

You'll also have problems with impedance matching...I think an electret is pretty high impedance, audio outputs are low.
