Primer advice: Casting Masters

Post by PetarB »

What kind of spray do you put on your master before you cast it? What's inert with RTV rubber?

I've had luck with Gunze Sangyo's Mr. Surfacer 1000.

Also, Future as a sealant for slightly porous materials is good.

Most things are inert with silicone rubber except glass/ceramic glazing and shellac. The rubber will bond to both of those if you don't use a release spray. As long as your master pattern isn't porous, it should be fine. You can use anything as a primer/sealer that you feel comfortable using apart from the above mentioned shellac.
