Hey All,
I did a search and cannot seem to find my answer.
I am doing 2 Y-wings. I don't own an airbrush. I want to blacken the torpedo tube reliefs on the bottom of the cockpit, but would like to get that "Fuzzy edge" look. Is this impossible without an airbrush?

Sure! Use pastels. Grind 'em into powder and apply with a brush. The best part? If you screw up, you wash it off and try again! Once you have the effect you want, seal the job with Dull Cote. Use several LIGHT coats. A heavy coat can discolor the pastels and ruin the effect.
Another option is light tints with watercolors.

With pastels, start light and work heavy. Do an area with pretty light color, seal with a very light dullcoat, and add heavier. Very light as in spray the air with dullcoat and pass the piece through...and wear gloves.
There are also some interesting color powders out there with encapsulated adhesives which are good at building up layers.

Thanks guys! I wasn't sure if that would give the fuzzy edge I am looking for.
I may try graphite. I have a buttload around here for lock lubricant from my days in autoparts....
