Testors Dullco +Testors Glosscote = Satin coat?

Post by deepcore »

Hi
Has anyone tried mixing Testors Dullcoat and Glosscote (decanted from cans) to get a satin/medium gloss coat?
Just curious.
Thanks

You get a semi-gloss. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe that Satin is just simply a a mix of dull/gloss at the right ratios. I think it's a unique animal.

Thanks.
I meant semi-gloss/less glossy in case Satin is the wrong term.

Then the answer is yes, however, if you are spraying onto an already flat finish, you can spray thinned coats of Gloss Cote onto the surface to get the same effect without having to mix it with Dull Cote. Just thin it with lacquer thinner, spray, and repeat as necessary until you like the finish. It probably works the other way too (thinning Dull Cote and spraying it onto a glossy finish) but I can't speak from experience on that.

I don't know if you are aware of this, but you don't have to decant your spray cans. Testors sells both Gloss and Dull Cote in bottles. I have a bottle of both in my stash for emergencies. Here's a link to hobby linc. I'm only recommending them because I've used them recently and they have good prices and excellent turnaround times.

But...

that all being said, if you have the flat finish, you can do achieve the same goal with thinned Future.
