so anyway, there was wondering how i was going to make the conning tower on the dy-100 style ship that i found a picture of on the web.
so i am doing this and that when it struck me, carve it with jewelers wax you have sitting around in your shop!!. this is embarassing because i make jewelry for living, though i don't do any wax carving.javascript:emoticon('')
now the reason i post this moment of stupidity is because i thought some you might be interested in this. The wax comes in blocks of varying hardness and is easy to repair if you make a mistake, particularly if you have a variable temp soldering iron. you cans also get soft wax sheets, wire in round, half round, triangle and other shapes. the harder waxes can be turned, drilled, milled ,etc. perfect for making masters, which is what i have done with the conning tower. now i've got an excuse to by a lathe! woo and hoo.
