Looking for Small Files

Post by Tchail »

I have a needle file set, but they're too big for squaring out the windows on my Monogram Voyager kit.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I could find 1mm square files?

Thanks,

You could try using a dental burr as a file .

Since that size would necessarily mean a fine grit, you could also square some small lengths of sprue and CA some fine grit sandpaper to the suared ind of said sprue, effectively making you a tiny, squared emery board.

Those files Kylwell linked to are good, I have a set. I'd recommend you wet-file the styrene, or it will clog the very fine grooves.

These mini files with handle are also handy.

They also have mini diamond files, which come in handy.

Hobby Lobby, probably not. Harbor Freight, maybe. Lowes, you'll have to check. I'd look up local hobby stores, even the RC shops usually carry small files.

SOOO glad I looked here...I've been trying to find jeweler's files that are 1.5mm x .75mm MAX for the 1K Andorian windows. I first used a #78 drill bit, then a super sharp #11 blade and then a fine jeweler's saw blade to make it one opening. But it's SUPER tough to get everything even in such a small place! That little 5-pc diamond set looks just about right...
