lighting the Defiant

Post by cerberus »

I am new to this lighting stuff and I don't inderstand all the math involved in all the sites I've looked at, but I'm just wondering if I use a 820ohm resistor will that be enough to run about 12 led's off a 9v battery. I've watched some you tube videos and know how to do the basic lay out just need some advice on this resistor and power thing.

Most LEDs other than red ones need around 3-3.5 volts. You will need to run 12 in parallel as 3 would be the maximum that you could light in series.

plug in your numbers

Leds in parallel:
Supply Voltage
VOLTS 9
Voltage Drop Across LED
VOLTS 3.4
Desired LED Current
MILLIAMPS 20
How many leds connected 12

Calculated Limiting Resistor
OHMS 23.33
Nearest higher rated 10% resistor 27

Calculated Resistor Wattage
WATTS 1.344
Safe pick is a resistor with
power rating of
WATTS 2.24
