Is there a good photoetch kit?

Got a question about techniques, materials or other aspects of physically building a model? This is the place to ask.

Is there a good photoetch kit?

Post by MillenniumFalsehood »

I'd like to create some 2D metal parts, and I'd like to know if there's a good, easy to follow kit with all the ingredients for making photoetch parts.

This is the only out of box kit I'm aware of. It has a very limited size though, 3" x 3" square. So your maximum part size you can reliably etch would be around 2 3/4 maybe 2 7/8" if you're careful. Its also very toxic and hazardous.

I've used the MicroMark system, and it's very well thought out, with clear and easy-to-follow instructions. It's also very complete: all the chemicals, the trays, the etching tank, apron, rubber gloves, goggles, etc.

That said, there's a bit of a learning curve involved; my first three tries were all failures. Here's a thread on another message board about my experience (I thought I'd posted here, too, but no sign of it):
