Wait time between coats

Post by prisoner_1079 »

I was wondering how long you should wait in between separate coats of spray paint on a model.

I just sprayed Osh Hardware flat black onto my Millennium Falcon kit and am going to spray Testor's Camouflage Gray over that and I just wanted to know whats the minimum you can wait and is there any ideal time between coats.

Sorry if this is redundant, I searched and couldn't find this topic.

Thanks,

Well the black is pretty much dry to the touch, could I just go and start doing coats of Camo Gray or should I wait til tomorrow?

I'd personally wait - it might still out-gas for a while

My rule of thumb - primer-sand-primer-sand-final primer coat - wait 2-3 days then start the detail painting

this step gives ample time for starting/finishing/ or at least messing around with, another project you are/were/ plan to work on?

What USS Atlantis stated.

The paint and weather/humidity can mess things up if the paint is not dry and that includes the primer.

Let it sit and work on another model (see, now you know the reason why people have more than one kit in the works.).

It depends if you use a curing box (i.e. a 60w bulb in a wood or cardboard box) you can accelerate the cure by about 50%.

I do this frequently and get get oil paints to set overnight.

Just make sure the bulb is not right by the model.

One tiny thing I would add:

With the spray bombs, keep your coats LIGHT. That will help you immensely.
