Whats the best fiber optic thickness for star destroyer

Post by muir318 »

Hello guys

Which is the best thickness of fiber optic to use to install on my star destroyer and republic star destroyer?

And can anyone recommend drill bit sizes and manufacturer?

Thanks in advance for all answers

I have used 0,35mm from those funny lights.. works I think.

Also have used some 1mm for the main hangar.

You might also want to consider the LG64-25 cable from fiberopticproducts.com.

See the bottom of this page:

A good place for drill bits is Widget Supply:

They have a good selection of drill bits at a reasonable price.

I'd also definitely recommend picking up a pin vice.

pin vice works great and is a must have for this kind of work, but man will your hands get tired using it, drilling a few hundred holes.

Next time I do a large lighting project I'm going to see about chucking the bits in the wand extension of my dremel. Maybe with low speed I won't break many bits and it will be worth it to be able to drill a bunch in a jiffy.

I used a mix of 0.25mm and 0.5mm diameter, with a #80 drill for the small fibers and a bigger one (I forget) for the 0.5mm diameter.

I'm guessing a .26mm drill bit is big enough for .25mm fiber? I assume the holes should be the same size or just slightly larger than the fiber itself.

Wow. Math fail. I was searching for something on drill bits and found this post. Sigh.
