Re: Who collects stuff for scratch building?

I've probably already posted this before, but, plastic soda lids. https://www.webstaurantstore.com/choice-32-oz-clear-cold-cup-flat-lid-with-straw-slot-case/760PCCLID32.html The dimples are easily cut out for sensor blisters, etc., and not all are simple smooth hemispheres - some have ridges, etc. E...

The older cover art has a definite TTA feel too it as well.
Yes! I'd never thought of that before. Man, I miss the old, fun ADF.

Re: DIORAMAS you would like to build

I just realized this week that a great project for me will be a model from each one of Heinlein's "juveniles" books. Some will be dioramas. Rocket Ship Galileo (1947) - Well, the Galileo , of course. Pretty typical Golden Age cigar rocket, probably. Space Cadet (1948) - Either the Patrol s...

Bend it in hot water around forms?

You guys aren't excited like I am, so I guess it's not that big a deal.

Styrene Rod with Wire Core?

So I'm watching the latest project from Adam Savage's "Tested" channel, and he says there's such a thing as styrene rod with embedded wire. ????????? Is this a thing I need to start fooling with? Where do I get it? I just did a 5 second web search and came up with nothing so I thought I'd ...

Re: How Do You Start?

Cool! Is that based on the one blasting out of the docking bay?

I was looking for pics of one of my little Trek ships to show that I start straight with styrene sometimes too, but then remembered I started that one in cardboard too. ;)

How Do You Start?

I can sketch passably. Can't truly draw . No 3-d software skills. I don't work in clay either. So when I get an idea (like I just did the other day) that needs a little "pre-vis" I tend to start with a couple little sketches and then use thin cardstock and tape to make little maquettes. Fr...

The cat saw fit to knock my old Paasche airbrush off of my workbench last year while I had the tip housing off for cleaning. Landed tip-first of course, horseing the needle into a spectacular curve and stretching the tip shroud. I've just won a "last man standing" beard chicken contest at ...
