Re: Illuminating very, very, small Ghost from Shapeways

Thanks, all, very much for the advice! I'll take a look and see what might work.

My 1/2256 fleet might be a pipe dream, but I'm gonna try to start small (Ghost), move up a bit (MC-30, thank you Nicholas Sagan), then go crazy (Anigrand ISD).

Illuminating very, very, small Ghost from Shapeways

I've been collecting a fleet of 1/2256 Star Wars ships, and my most recent acquisition is an insanely small Ghost. I had no intention of illuminating the mini, but since it was printed in a fairly transparent medium I thought it might be worth a shot. I tried running a single fiber optic strand thro...

Hexagonal Rod/Tubing. Didn't want to start a new thread but I'm looking for Hexagonal rod/tubing that is Plastic, Brass, or Wood. I've checked online for a while but keep coming up with either tiny diameter or custom extrusion shops. I need something about one inch diameter, anywhere from 6 inches u...

I have been told that acetone works well, but you MUST be careful with it, because if you get it on yourself you'll melt like the Wicked Witch of the West, as will any nearby furniture, model kits, pets, and concrete.

Shrugger, That makes sense, but I don't think they they're the run of the mill white metal parts. Maybe pewter or some other sort. How's this for a qualitative analysis: They "clink" in the bag together, they don't "clonk" like other white metal pieces, they are relatively light,...

I have a kit with turned brass parts (gun barrels) that must be mounted on another part (turret) that is a different metal. The larger part is cast metal, but far harder than any white metal I've ever seen. Do any of you guys have experience soldering somthing like this? Will the torch and solder wo...

CA glue for PE metal fittings should be fine. Just make sure the metal parts have been cleaned and aren't covered in any dirt or oil. Some people paint the parts first, others glue first. You'll have to work out which works best for you.

I wonder if we could produce a Starship Modeler themed episode of Fear Factor. First challenge: Contestants have to use nail poish remover and hot water to debond the partially assembled engine housings on a $200 Nostromo kit. Will they break the part-- or break under the pressure themselves?! Secon...

Super glue de-bonder

I have a vinyl kit that has a few pieces already glued together. I'd like to remove them for additional clean up and re-positioning. I've never used a de-bonder and was wondering if anybody had experience with it on CA glues, specifically, if there is a negative impact on vinyl. TIA.

I just had to use the "wet washcloth to remove decals over Future" method on a Buck Rogers starfighter. 15 minutes and a pipette of hot water did the trick on all four decals. Unfortunately, I did have to clean up the surface area below the decals, since setting solution and decal glue had...
