Try striping the wire out of old electrical cable some will be copper some metallic.
You can wrap the wire around something as thin a a needle to produce very thin hollow all be it corrugated hose.

I still haven't decided, but i can't seem to get away from a steampunk design probably steam driven which ultimately drives a power generator to power the electric fans. Iam visualising fans for upward lift that possibly could tilt or 2 separate sets of fans that propel the tank forward and backward...
