Re: Window making tool for the novice?
That sounds like an application for a rotary broach. I'm not fully convinced it would work on styrene or if any off the shelf tools would be the right size, but might be worth checking out: https://www.polygonsolutions.com/how-rotary-broaching-works/ Not sure you could control this process to be pr...

Re: Need a good quality water based primer
Hi Scott I absolutely LOVE Badger Stynylrez Primers! I've pretty much given up on rattlecan primers on everything now. Just have a google for reviews! Airbrushable, and comes in quite a range of colours now. Ant Hey Ant! Thanks for the info. I had asked about the primer in another thread for a cust...

Need a good quality water based primer
Hello all, I am looking for a water based primer. I have a large, 2ft., model I have to cover. Lacquer or enamel rattle can primer could melt some of the fine details. I would like to airbrush on the primer, since the primer will also be the finish. I will be spraying mostly styrene but also metal p...

Good/inexpensive source for PETG plastic
Hello All, I am looking for a good source for PETG, clear plastic. I need to do some vac forming and it needs to be thin, .015, .010. I have looked around and I can only find sources that 'also' carry the stuff. I'm looking for a good online plastics supplier. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks in...

Hi All, Has anyone here worked with this primer? The label states that it is a water based acrylic polyurethane. !? Also from the label; -Simple & easy application -Self leveling detail enhancing coverage -Excellent adhesion and durability -Dries to a hard flat finish -for use on plastics...

Wasn't there a discussion on MEK a while back and how nasty it is!? Good advice suggested already. There is also an automotive product called 'flex-ilizer'. It is made for bumper covers and all of the softer plastic parts that are supposed to flex in a collision. It is an additive for standard autom...

You can use solvent with .005 styrene, I do it all of the time. You have to use an industrial solvent, such as Resin-bond. R.B. evaporates almost instantly, therefore, small amounts on a fine brush will not melt the thin stuff. The trick is, to have the styrene strip in place, then make a couple of ...

What you could try; Press the domes in clay. Wall up around the area, pour in resin. You should then have a solid block with the raised domes on it. Take a safety razor blade, the kind you use for scarping paint, and carefully cut each dome off. Start at the outer rows and work in. You have to hold ...

I have had to do this very thing for pattern work, so no, not crazy, crazy inventive!! I was given a TOS saucer in cast urethane to create a non-cannon design in 1:1000 scale. Small! The saucer was all smooth, no details. After scribing the defector lines, I had to indicate all of the windows, circu...

Accelerator supplier, please.
Hi All, Looking fo a good supplier of CA accelerator or Zip Kicker. My local HS closed last year. :x I would get the large bottle and refill my atomizer. I have since purchased a small bottle at an HS further away. I use a lot of CA throughout the year so I need a lot of accelerator. It needs to be ...

You might also consider investing in some styrene shapes, like form Plastruct or Evergreen Plastics. I have just about every shape they produce, half round, quarter round and even triangular shapes, 'i' beem, L beem, etc. When I mastered the TOS Galactica for Timeslip, I used only 5% kit parts for t...

Ditto much of what has been said already. I actually covered this in the class I taught for Sci-Fi-U on Friday @W.F. this year. The dull Xacto blade is the way I scribe and that is what I discussed. I follow that with a fine point steel tool. Just a finely ground point, nothing fancy. Sand down the ...

Thanks for posting the MSDS, Kylwell. I took a look at REZ-N-Bond, since I have several quarts on hand, and found it had MC in it, which I was unaware. I knew it did not have MEK in it. The only difference with R-N-B, is that it welds ABS together and styrene to ABS. I don't know if Tenax or...
