Shading with rattle cans Buh. obviously I won't get exactly the same effect or anywhere near as good, but anything that's just not a flat colour would be fine, what if I masked off around the feathers and lightly dusted the feathers with a lighter colour green spray, could it turn out okay?...

Any sign shop will sel you it by the square foot- usually about $5-6. Better though is to just give them a line art file (adobe Illustrator is perfect) of the shapes you want to make- they can "print" the shapes into the vinyl- this means the sign machine precision cuts out the shapes- rea...

Wax based color pencils can be blended with de-natured alcohol- or a "clear blending marker". You can make a gradient with say, light brown over yellow, and blend it to look nicely weathered. I use this on small-scale ships and it looks pretty good- I use pencils to highlight panel lines- ...

Any off the shelf design software can work...publisher, paint...but a more capable program like Illustrator or corel or Indesign would be better for the creative stuff. Yup- I use Adobe Illustrator for curving text and making starship (Trek) registries. CorelDraw! is really good for various texture...

Hmmm....scribe the lines on a larger master of the sphere you want- there is a "reducing" technique for making a mold proportionally smaller.

Krylon spray will work but expect some of your subtle weathering to be lost- this happened with my Vorcha after I had used sone subtle watercolor washing that I thought looked perfect.

Basically, it was back to the drawing board.

Try Workable Fixative- it's much more forgiving.
Cheaper too!

A great way to use oil pastels is to buy some Blending Stumps (they're dirt cheap at any art store) and oil pastel coored pencils not so cheap but they last a looong time). Basically, you use the colored pastel pencils to shade the area you want highlighted, then dip the blending stump (essentialy i...

Okay: heres a question: I've used Solvaset before with success but almost every time I buy this stuff (Testors brand), after a few weeks the little glass jar gets this rust-like black crud under the cap and around the mouth of the jar. What's that all about? What's the diffrence between Solvaset and...

As babaganoosh said: just be certain you dont overdo it lest you start taking up the paint you're weathering! I spray Workable Fixative over the model prior to any enamel wash- that little bit of extra protection can save a model. ...of course, you can always use watercolors to wash in limited quant...

Actually, I havent made all the DS9 kitbashes yet!

I still need to finish my Curry and then find another Excelsior saucer, sand off it's extra impulse engines, and build the Raging Queen.

I wont bother with the little Klingon tug though.

Did you clean all the parts with soap and water before building your ship?
It coud be the resin's release agent preventing the CA from wworking.
Taking an emery board and very lightly sanding the parts to be glued would probably help too.
