Need help finding rubber tubing
I'm using this to create a nub for an airsoft gun. Here's what I need: Tubing with an inner diameter of 1/4" and with a wall thickness of about 1/16" to 3/32" Automotive vacuum tubing is just a little bit too stiff. Latex tubing is too soft. It needs to be pliable enough that you can ...

Painting metal, and how many clear coats to use?
Heya. I've been painting my airsoft guns (barrels mostly, but may be moving on to other parts) and want the most durable finish possible as these things not only receive a lot of handling, but get banged around a bit. I'm using Duplicolor self-etching primer on the metal parts, and will probably sti...

Revised Compressor Recommendation Question
Okay, after bopping about the web a bit, I'm revising the question. I've been on the prowl for a new compressor for a while. Now I'm looking to do double duty. Firstly to do airbrushing at home. I live in an apartment, so it needs to be quiet enough that my neighbors won't hate me. I currently use t...

Thanks! FYI, I'm going to be buying 100 rd magazines for my Pulse Rifle and will be sculpting and then casting the bottom parts of the pulse rifle. Having the part cast in something that looks like metal will save me a bunch of time when it comes to the finishing stage. :) I just have to figure out ...

Low toxicity/quick cure room temp resin recommendations?
Like the title says. I'll still use my mask and use it in a well-ventilated area, but I need some stuff that isn't going to be so touchy. Easy to work with. Something where I won't need vacuums or special ovens or whatever. Something I can just leave on my deck for a few hours (or overnight in ~55° ...

Thanks for all the information Chas, and I definitely plan on erring on the side of safety. Since I live in an apartment, and simply lack the ability to do larger casting projects in a manner that would give the best results AND be safe, I'll be limiting myself to casting smaller parts so that I can...

Questions about casting and joining clear resin
Heya. I got it into my hand to do a sculpt of the Glass Hand from "Demon With a Glass Hand" but am trying to figure out the best way of doing things so that I can add lights and the inner structure. Wondering if y'all might have some good ideas. First, it seems like the way to get the effe...

A couple things: My spray-mount idea didn't work. It just wouldn't stay tacky long enough (that's with a liberal dose of Super 77). Then I used a few gallons of superglue and baking soda. That turned out okay, but I couldn't get exactly the surface contours I wanted since the glue dries almost insta...

the dangerous compound in polyurethane resin is called isocyanate. it is colorless odorless and extremely hazardous. it can be absorbed by breathing it in and also through contact with the skin. It will not kill you and the danger is not an acute one. it is a cumulative effect. When it is absorbed ...

I've been seriously casting for 4+ years now, and look at me: I'm fine!!!! :zb: That's reassuring! Apart from all the warnings all over the directions (there are SO many warnings that it is kind of hard to actually find the directions--I wound up looking it up online), I've found that the Crystal C...

How toxic is resin?
So I've been experimenting with Smooth-On Crystal Clear 202, and I really like it. I used a proper respirator and did it all in my bathroom with the window open. After I finished casting, I kept the door closed and window open for a couple of hours to ventilate. I only mixed a small amount (about 2-...

just remember that if you have multiple series of 4 leds in parallel and one resistor dropping voltage, the current through the resistor is the current through 1 series of LEDs * the number of 4 LED series loops. So typical new LEDs would be 4loops * 0.020 Asmps per loop = 0.080 Amps total. Wattage...

On/Off button + Toggle wiring question
Hey all. I was wondering if it was possible to wire something up with simple switches purchased from RadioS---k that will do this: 1 Latching pushbutton on/off 1 Toggle that will switch between a sound activated circuit and a bypass that will supply steady power. Also, the thing is wired up so that ...

How to model sand in 1:8?
I am starting construction on the base for my Trek Diorama, and the 'ground' needs to look like sand with those sparkly bits they liked to mix with the sand. What is the best way of getting that fine, textured look? I was thinking of using some of the leftover cement I have from when I tiled my bath...

give the youtube trick a try, I'd be weary of blowing out the computer sound card but you could try some other audio device maybe an little fm radio for jogging or what not. 30 LEDs assuming newer white or blue. Assume you slightly under drive and run 4 leads in series (wants 13.2 volts). you can g...

Advice on making sound-activated lighting circuit
Okay, seeing as how I've burned everything else out. I was thinking of going a completely different direction. I watched a video on how to build a 12v circuit using a TIP31 transistor and 3.5mm jack. The 3.5mm female jack is connected to the middle prong, and the positive and negatives of the LEDs t...

Power question
So I am trying to wire up the sound-activation circuits from an Avatar toy and am wanting to use a regulated wall-wart to power it. The toy takes three 1.5v L736H batteries. So does that mean I need to supply 4.5v to the circuit in order for it to work?

FYI: McDonald's Avatar Happy Meal Toys Circuit
As many of you know, the Avatar toys have a small chip in them. Almost all of them have a sound/vibration sensor connected to a small, programmed chip. The larger toys (the animals) have 2-3 LEDs in them (not sure as I haven't pulled these open yet), while the figures have a single LED. Well, I was ...
