Need Help Adding Ramps/Hatches

Post by Emu2020 »

Hello all,

First post here, but I was wondering if anyone had any hints on parts., techniques or materials that would aid in adding working ramps and hatches to sections of models that don't already have them.

For example, I am planning to modify a helicopter model and want to add a drop-down troop ramp in the back, but am not sure on the best way to do this. Should I use parts of the existing model and find a way to hinge it or should I try making something from scratch and adding it in?

I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

-Eli

It depends on your experience level, and how much effort you're willing to put into the project. I was at an IPMS Regional contest a couple of years ago, and there was a guy there who tore apart old watches and used the gears to build FUNCTIONAL windows and window cranks in 1/24th scale cars.

So, Yes it is possible, but Nothing is necessarily free or easy!

I'd go with modifying the kit parts as much as possible. As for hinges, check out the RC section at your hobby shop. DuBro makes various size/style hinges for airplane control surface applications.
