Don't recall where I had found this site.... but figure to pass it on.

http://www.ezrays.com

My understanding is that this will replace using resistors and that you can hook up several leds to it... no problem.

Sounds interesting, but I can't get the site to open after several tries.

The site is..uhm..interesting... Flash based if I was to guess. Takes forever to load even on a DSL connection.

My question is what exactly is it?

It sounds like a joule thief, already pre-built.

One of those may be a Maxim Max1595 class LED driver in a convenient small case. The 1595 can drive up to 125ma and they're rugged little guys. I used one as a regulator for a small solar powered data logger.

You mean its a little tiny Boost Regulator intended to make a common microcontroller rail supply from a variable input like a battery or solar cell.

(I have some experience building things like this).

I cant get it to load either, it must be huge.

That too. I used the 3.3V output version, because it provides a constant 3.3V from as little as 1.8V. I was expecting the solar panels to get dusty and stop recharging the batteries, which would have given me about 2 months of battery life. It turned out that the winds kept everything clean for the duration and the voltage never wavered. It did get hot - around 160F-170F inside the box on the hottest day.

Maxim has a page on White LED power drivers.

Now that the site is loading again.

Could be better laid out and set-up and for sure needs a faster server.

Loads fast on my cable connection- interesting gadget but I tend to power my projects with a regulated external power supply.

Hm, I have one or two builds that would benefit from those drivers
