Help with foam
I'm getting ready to start a project using foam for the basic shape. What do I coat the foam with for a base for adding details and painting?
In a couple more minutes, this whole area's going to be a mushroom cloud the size of Nebraska.

When you say foam, do you mean that you are using blue foam blocks that you've carved, or foam core board cut and glued to form shapes?

If you're talking styrofoam, like the pink or blue insulation or the white packing blocks, I use three things.
1. Hot wire cutter
2.. Old, fine toothed razor saw
3. Olfa straight blade, "snap off" knife. I can extend it out as long as necessary to carry planes across areas I need.
Most fine sculpting, though, I do with files, some custom sanding blocks and X-Actos.
Then it's time for Aves.

A layer of general epoxy, or West Systems epoxy and fiberglass.

Depending on the foam... is this foam insulation pink foam? If so- the epoxy will melt it down, just like spray paint would. There you need wood glue, then resin. If it is hard urethane foam, then coat with epoxy and resin.Umi_Ryuzuki wrote:A layer of general epoxy, or West Systems epoxy and fiberglass.
