Does anyone have any references for scratch building the Star Trek Spacedock? Thanks.

Which one? There have been several... if you type 'spacedock' into Google Images, it shows:

ST TMP, III, IV, IV

TNG McKinley
TNG Remmler Array
TNG Nemesis

And even the JJ-Trek version.

Nem Via (who posts here) built a TMP drydock from scratch last year (or finished it, rather). You can see his WIP pics and notes here. Scroll down the tags to "sttmpproject" and "sttmpprojectptii". His is 1:350, to go with his PL Enterprise, but the mechanics should be similar in whatever scale you prefer.

Plan to spend some time looking, as it's an incredible build.

The spacedock seen in Star Trek III, IV, V and VI are all the same. That's the one I'm referring to.
It also appeared (perhaps as a larger version - or not) in several TNG episodes:

Pretty cool , but I was thinking of the big one (see previous post). I believe "Spacedock" is the name (proper noun) of the huge space station, whereas "drydock" is just a type of dock (common noun).

The pictures are certainly a good reference. I wonder if there are any accurate blueprint style schematics. It seems like it would be pretty simple to build this since it is basically sections of cones, spheres, and tubes pieced together. The challenge (and fun) would be in accurizing it with greebles, windows, lights, etc. I'm thinking huge - maybe 4 feet or so in diameter (or a scale of about 1/2500).

Of course I think that most people will know what you mean if you say "mushroom" station.

Believe it or not, but the Jackill's blueprints come closest to replicating the correct angles of the stations upper section. The "official" side image (the first link in Ex Astris) is pretty much wrong in every angle. I've been collecting every image I can find of this for the 1/10,000 scale model I'm building. BTW, yes, I'm building a basic interior for the docking hull in mine. at 14" diameter, there's too much space to let it go to waste.

Good to know about Jackhill's. I still plan to do this one day, but in 1/2500 or 1/3900. For me, the most difficult part to replicate would be the top and bottom sensor/communication details.

Mtyler, way back in the day I too toyed with doing a 1/2500 scale station. The thought of an almost 5 foot diameter by over 7 foot construction in my home (then a college dorm) was a pretty convincing deterrent. The model I'm working on now actually scales out to be 1/10680 (it's scaled so the rounded cone juuust fits my lathe), which is close enough to the Galoob Enterprise D Micromachine to be easily displayable with it.

Let's see...a 1/3900 scale model would be 38 inches diameter by 55 inches tall. That's still pretty ambitious, but not outside the realm of possibility for a one-off model. It would be nice as well that all the gaming minis could be displayed with it. You could even consider a 90 degree model that could be mounted in a corner display to cut down construction even more. Remember, one of the DS9 filming miniatures was built that way!
