Flushing airbrush with lacquer thinner after testors enamel

Hi

Noticed testors enamel clumped in my Aztek when I tried to
flush with hardware store lacquer thinner.
Will the same thing happen if I use hardware store mineral spirits instead?
How about hardware store paint thinner.

I've used hardware store paint thinner to flush enamels for years with no problem.

the instruction disc that came with my Aztec says enamals and mineral spiritis are okay ... should flush it out.

but lacquor over enamil has "orange peeled" my paint so I'm guessing they don't mix

Lacquer thinner will dissolve enamels very effectively. If you haven't used it to clean the airbrush before, it may have loosened older paint stuck inside the airbrush, and not had time to completely dissolve it. It's a lot more aggressive than mineral spirits or alcohol.
Lacquer will also dissolve Tamiya acrylics.
I use it to clean my Paasche and Badger brushes with a large drum of the stuff purchased from a hardware store and not had any trouble. I also use it to thin my alkyd and enamel paints.

I'll second the notion that there was something else in the airbrush or cup that curdled.

Have you always shot enamels only through that cup/tip combo?

I soak my iwata eclipse (nozzle up to the cup) in super clean degreaser every few uses, keeps it nice shiny and clean. That helps keep any thing from clumping or residue build up. I run some thru also and that helps

I shoot acrylics and enamels thru samebrush but clean in between with lacquer and/or purple degreaser soaks.
I had just used used Testors white thinned Testors brand thinner before flushing with hardware lacquer.
Does Testors thinner and lacquer react badly when they mix?

Testors ENAMEL thinner and ACRYLIC thinners do not mix at all.

I've poured them in the same bottle and one floats above the other.

Kind of a nice effect really
