Lighting the Lindburgh UFO

I'm going to attempt this kit for the fourth and final time (the seam between the upper and lower saucer drives me crazy), and for visual interest I opened the door with one of the aliens standing there, and added an interior light.

But the light was wired to a transformer. I'd rather set up something to a battery case. Although I can do household electrical work, I'm a sad neophyte when it comes to working with small lighting projects, so I need to keep it very simple. Does someone make a kit that would fit what I'm trying to do?

I have no experience with the UFO kit nor have I seen it up close in person. So, tell us what you want the lights to do (apart from not starting a fire), how it sequences, what colour, etc and take pictures of the kit inside out so we can see how the LEDs can be mounted.
