Removing resin parts from plastic model

Post by holt »

Ha guys can anyone tell me if super clean will remove a resin part that's been glued on with CA glue. I got a new Enterprise-B model and I got the aftermarket saucer, neck and bridge but I already glued the bridge on an old kit and I don't want to spend $40 bucks just for the new bridge.

If you're sure it's CA glue, try this: pop the whole thing in the freezer overnight. The next day, try to "pop" the parts apart, start easy at first. The CA should be brittle enough to break apart at the seams, and lezve the plastic/resin alone.

Of course, that all depends on how much CA is in there. If the parts are "welded" together(CA is slathered along the seams) then try another method.

Acetone acts as a solvent for CA. Shouldn't hurt the styrene or the resin.

Small amount of acetone won't hurt it. Soaking it in acetone is another issue entirely.

Do what the Jimi says, pop it in the freezer for a few days. The styrene, CA, & resin contracts @ different rates reducing the bond between the CA and the others.
