Removable Panels

Post by widowson »

I'm still building a 1/6 space ship. I need to have it break down, have removable panels, so that I can photograph the interior from various angles.

Are there established techniques for attaching panels that will be removable?

Uh...Have you considered screws? Rare earth magnets can also be of use.

I'll second the magnet idea, that's what Tamiya uses on their 1/16 R/C armor line to cover the control panels, works great and you can't tell the panels are removable.

Depending on the sizes and shapes of the panels, you could also design a locking tab kind of system similar to the way some battery covers snap into place on toys and small electronics.

It really depends on how the outer hull looks... I would try to follow scribed panel lines and knock out the area to th e inside of the panels. Some panels I have made this way are tight enough to "snap" into place. They are beveled and are very time consuming to make.
