Rocket Launch Effects

Post by widowson »

I'm making a campy sci-fi movie involving models at two scales and live actors.

The rocket launch sequences are at 1/72 scale. I got a pretty good space base on Ganymede built. The problem is that I want to lauch model space ships off it. Today's studio shoot went well, but I need something better than match heads for special effects.

Has anybody ever encountered systems for simulating this kind of thing? I keep coming back to lighting as an area where I might find a solution.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tealight candles may provide a good flicker effect.

Do you have a special effects program like Motion or After Effects? The best way to do it convincingly is rotoscoping it. The Black Hole had great roto thrust effects.
