Got a bit of a puzzler for the group:
I'm building one of the Hawk 1/4 scale car engines as a Christmas gift for someone, the plan was to mainly do seam cleanups, better painting, etc, I didn't want to go all out and superdetail the model, one of the changes I decided to make was to strip the diecast engine block parts, the factory applied paint was applied over bare metal, so it pulled away from all the corners and left dark lines at every sharp edge. I've since stripped the paint, cleaned up any defects in the castings and have primed the parts using automotive lacquer white primer.
My conundrum is how to spray the deep recesses and vertical areas near said recesses without flooding the whole thing in paint?
I've thought about decanting some of the paint and brushing it in the deep spots and walls to get good coverage, let it tack up a bit and before the recoat time window expires ends I'll spray the rest of the part with the spraycan so the edges won't be that visible.
Has anyone tried this method?
I also thought about decanting some of the paint and airbrushing the details then doing a final coat using the can, this would probably work the best except for the cleanup part.
Here's the kit:

You can see the deep spots in the area above the oil filter.
