How can I "thin" a flat resin placard ?

How can I "thin" a flat resin placard ?

Imagine you have a A4 sized resin placard, 3 mm thick.

I need to reduce the thickness to 1 mm or less.

How can I do it, without damaging the placard itself (remember... it´s resin... it can break and warp with heat...).

I was thinking of using a sanding tool, but I´m not sure of which...

Any help will be gratly appreaciated.

I would say tape some wet/dry sandpaper down to a smooth surface and wet sand it flat. Start with coarser grit to get most of it off and go from there. It will take some elbow grease, but it's the safest way. A belt type sander may break it/ruin it. And your fingers.

To add on to the above advice:

Depending on the size you can make a t-handle out of tape to give you something to grip, or if the part is too small for that use some Blu-Tack putty (or similar) to grab the part.

Sand in a figure 8 motion so you don't wear down one side too fast.

Yup. Double stick tape some sandpaper down to a very flat smooth surface. Then gently sand, changing hand position and direction regularly. Check often.

I use 3M Super 777 spray mount to put sheets of sand paper on it. Use the Silicon Carbide Waterproof stuff. It allows you to wet sand and it will go faster and cleaner.
