Hey guys, this place opened up near my house last year. I keep going by it wondering what goes on inside, finally I checked it out and it's a laser cutting shop that teaches you how to use their machinery! I'm thinking about trying it out. Lord knows what cool model making potential is in a place like this!

I have a laser engraver/cutter. The biggest learning curve will be the 'art' used by the machine. I was lucky when I bought mine I already had 6 years of Corel Draw under my belt so I just had to learn the laser end. They are GREAT machines....but expect to spend a lot more than you may think. No matter how much pre cutting engineering I do after I test cut I always have to make changes.....but I was manufacturing kits for consumers....so they had to be easy and perfect. If you are just cutting for your self and you make a small error you can just fix it and go on.
This was a kit I offered a while back.

There's a Kickstarter on now for a low-cost laser cutter right now:

"If the early Japanese had had beer bottles, and one had ever been broken and used in a brawl, they would then immediately decide on the technique for breaking the bottle, and how to get the proper jagged edge. And they would have had names for the different kinds of edges, strikes, and all of it." - Hank Reinhardt

Doesn't look like a bad little machine. I'd call it an American version of some of the inexpensive Chinese machines on the market. My only concern would be the glass tube. They don't have the same beam quality and longevity as a metal tube. But, for a hobbyist, it might not be bad.
