12v LED strip - Can I use 'any' 12v adapter?

Post by sillyface »

Hi everyone - just when I thought lighting was getting easier

...If not, how can I work out what adapter to get for a model populated with roughly 1 and a half meters of LED strip?

I heard that I may need to find out the watts of the adapter.

A lot of wall adapters will give a mA rating.

I checked a listing on ebay and it says a 5m length needs 12V 2A.

So in theory 1.5m will need a minimum of 0.6A or 600 mA.

So you need a 12V DC adapter that puts out at least 600mA.
