Hover tank challenge

The challenge: build any kind of hover tank without using a tank kit's hull or turret - because nothing saus 'fun' like 70 tons of floating mayhem.

Why didn't I see this earlier. Have had a hover tank build in mind for severa years but think the turret I have will be too small for the body. Will have to play with it some.

I tried making a concept sketch in 3d studio but realised my skills have dwindled into near nothingness. Them polygons aint talking to me no more... :(

I've not given up though.

Is this thing still on? I've always wanted to work on some kind of hovertank model!

Sure! Crank one up. There's a few builds still underway.

A sign advertising the local Hooters? :D

Wait, wait, that would *draw* the eye, not help evade notice. If I were in a cynical mood, I could suggest some things...

What you want is something that everybody sees in any city but never really notices. Maybe painted up like a garbage truck? Every city has those, don't they?

Also, a bit late, I found an awesome turret at a thrift shop, so I can actually start my entry. I've had the hoverfan intakes cast up for months, but I have been holding off on the rest of the build til the proper turret had been found.

...also, I'm a really slow builder.

I also 'stickied' the thread, since it has the rules/guidelines for the challenge.

I opened the box I have my project stored in. I might make a push to finish before Wonderfest.

Of course WF is crunch time for the business so I may get noting else done!

More life.

So after a relatively quiet period. How are the projects coming. Mine has stalled but remained in good shape. I entered it in a contest as a stand alone last year and it got a silver in category. I plan on a figure and base for it. Anyone have any updates? I may start another tank as i have found more model board scraps and my Mini lathe is working! This challenge is ongoing. Use it whenever you get a dead patch or lull in your building. Just remember no pre existing tank kit hulls can be used just greeblies.

Mine has not changed in ages. The parts are in a box on the shelf. They need to be glued together then shaped.

Maybe I will find the time this year. :D

I was working on one for Wonderfest but decided not to rush it and do it how I want. Course, it is kit based and doesn't fit this challenge but actually finishing any models is a challenge for me.

I have not worked on my tank in a while, but I did just finish the card stock prototype of a companion piece. It's either a grav lift version of a jeep/armored car or a very light tank. If I get off my butt, I'll post pics this weekend. I designed and built it while watching FX repeatedly air Battle: Los Angeles.

Back at you, and a Happy New Year, too - glad to see you posting again. Build yourself a hover tank-all of the fire power, none of the trackwork!

Hi Dr Yo

Hmm, I have something thats been a long time sat on the back burner. It hovers, but is more patrol craft than Tank. We shall see what this year brings.

Have a good 2018.

Hi, Dec! :) Good to hear from you again. :) If you don't have any solid plans for your hover tank - and if you do I might try this one - you could always base it on a Land Rover. :) I can still hear you saying "Nobody messes with a Landy!" :)

Hello Scotaidh
I must have felt a disturbance in the force, It has been an age since I looked on the site, yet tonight a few hours after you post, here I am.

I did start work on that recent idea. 100% scratch build. I successfully cut the top of my finger of with a mini circular saw while doing it. So the thing suddenly stoppped. I have yet to restart ( or find the inclination).

My Sci fi modelling did have a sudden and rewarding bout at the end of Summer https://www.facebook.com/29606188049190 ... =3&theater and https://www.facebook.com/29606188049190 ... =3&theater

But for the most part - too much work, too little time for hobby.

All the Best

Dec
