i am looking for some shallow plastic domes so i can build some larger scales of my modular star hauler
the domes i am looking for need to be pretty close to these sizes:
for my 4222 scale build
dome - 95mm wide and aprox 15-20mm tall
disc - 85mm wide and aprox 1/8 or 2.5mm thick (i can build them up in layers if need be)
for my 2256 scale build
dome - 177mm wide and aprox 40?mm tall
disc - 150mm wide and aprox 1/8 or 2.5mm thick (i can build them up in layers if need be)
i am thinking that i may just cut the disc from .080" (or thicker) myself and build them up as need be, but the domes i can't make.
i'd like to try to have the domes as plastic and hollow-like as it would be interesting to see someone try to light one of these kits

Have you tried the face of an alarm clock?
They say ants can lift ten times their own weight. Today I feel as energetic as an ant! Yessir I believe I could lift 11, no, maybe even 12 ants right now.
When I needed to make some shallow domes for an antenna I first made a small dome using styrene, a plastic rod and Bondo that I spun on a drill to create the rounded shape. This was my positive mold.
Then using Vaselene I put more Bondo on top of my dome piece to create a block. After the bond set I pulled them apart.
Then I put a small piece of thin styrene in the toaster oven to get it soft enough to work with and while it was still soft I mashed it between the two pieces of Bondo to create a dome shape.
Yes it is tricky but with enough tries I finally got the shape I wanted.

When I did my 1/12 Mercury, I wanted to include the escapehatch bulkhead. After getting the right profile for it, I made the arc the right size in a graphics program, printed them out and used them as a template. I cut out radial ribs and glued them around a brass tube on a disc. Filled the spaces between with bondo and smoothed it out with putty. Then I squash molded a couple of bulkheads with styrene.
The part was maybe four-ish inches across and around a third of an inch deep.
Once you get the form made its easy to bang out a bunch.
