Drill bits for Fiber Optics

Post by slookabill »

Does anyone have any recommendations for where to get decent sized drill bits for drilling holes for the fiber optics? I'm thinking I'll use .25mm fiber optic, though I do have .5mm, .75 and 1mm fiber as well for end glow optics. I just discovered either my drill bits I bought before are missing or aren't small enough to be snug for them, or the 3D printer nozzel drills I got are too short.

I use Tamiya's fine drill bit set. It has a .3 and a .8 drill bits, which are close enough to .25 and .75. There's another drill bit set for larger jobs, from 1mm to 3mm. You can look for these at your hobby store or online.

One day I was walking and I found this big log. Then I rolled the log over and underneath was a tiny little stick. And I was like, "That log had a child!"

IMHO, Widget Supply is the best value for the money when it comes to drill bits:

I use #80 drill bits for my .25 mm fiber optics

$12.71 for a pack of 12
https://www.amazon.com/Gyros-45-21280-S ... +Bit+No.80

for .75 mm #68 size should work
$8.10 for a pack of 12

You can check the drill bit conversion table here for other sizes

Talk to your dentist. Dental bits work great in a pin vise and come in many sizes. By the time they're no good for teeth, they're still great for plastic.
