How to lift a dried decal for repositioning?

Post by MillenniumFalsehood »

I have a minor emergency. The main registry number decal for my USS Enterprise-D model is positioned too far down the nose of the ship. I hadn't painted the windows yet so I didn't know that it was over them until I was putting on the transporter pads. Is there a way to maybe soak the decal with warm or hot water and then lift it up to reposition it?

Warm, soapy water. Work very slowly. Use a soft paint brush and work it under the decal as you go.

Yes. The idea is to slowly remove the glue under the decal without tearing it. Once the decal is removed you will need a new source of adhesive to hold it in place. I use a little bit of Future both under and over the decal to seal it in.

A little bit of diluted white glue does the trick too.
