BTW... anybody else here have the thought "hrm... This might make a nice base for a spaceship" after seeing videogame controller? Had that happen when I first saw the Dreamcast controller ( Google image search ) -- the VMU could be "shuttlecraft", and they joystick part being a "bridge".

speaking of "this (common item) looks sort'a like a (sci-fi item)..."
Anybody else remember the the "cryopod mouse"?

No, this is not an article about cooling. This is something little that you can do to make your mouse's life a bit better. Everybody wants to look good, your mouse too.

I remember buying some Torengos tortilla chips -- just because the container looked like they could be a basis for a cargo container for some sort of spaceship. The tortilla chips were a bit bland and little too salty for my taste.

Each time I see the Listerine PocketPak container, I keep thinking "there's gotta be something I could use this for..."

Speaking of caps--some of the Musselmans apple sauce packs have some in an interesting shape

With the e-cig movement, I've been seeing bits and pieces of vape equipment that look interesting.

These pens have great caps that look like nacelles

Did end up with quite a pile of Altoids tins -- got them since the tins looked like they could be useful as project box for electronics. (yeeeaah riiiight... -- this is a "software guy" talking about hardware... we all know where this is going to end up...)

Kraft Parmesan Cheese (grated) has a container that would be a great Daedalus sec hull

Meat tenderizers with pistons could be pusher plate pulse Orion ships. J P Morgan pens have warp coil looks...

18 wheelers have these new hubcap type wheel covers that might make good 1/537 saucer extensions...along with paint lids and such.

There is a new motion activated ornament from Christmas House available at dollar stores from Greenbrier International Inc 500 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake VA 23320

It makes for a nice fat saucer. Similar saucers are to be found at my Local “2nd And Charles” where the old anti-theft saucer things line a wall below the register.

They didn’t want to part with any.

My plan was to insert stalks into them and attach them to the round black plastic table displays you see in some Wal Marts (No money)

Interesting
https://www.lightinthebox.com/?litb_fro ... 80c7cded58

Pentel TRADIO pens/refills have the nicest multi disk inserts I have ever seen. Perfect warp coils or cannon.

As odd as this sounds, hollow nasal inserts look like torpedo tubes.

ACO Stormbrixx look interesting

Now I am sure we have all used Glade air fresheners as RPG shells, or bits...the base looking like an emitter.

They have been redesigned, and the ventral side looks far more visually interesting (the hollow)

This might be useful for the easily breakable antennas that can go on models of--say--the Cygnus, from THE BLACK HOLE
https://advances.sciencemag.org/content/7/2/eaba4261

For quick and dirty effects work, roll a flat-edge saucer across a green screen floor.

Under water bases can have a small explosive glued between a hollow tower to show it lifting off with a camera shooting underwater. The lift off is just the plastic tower detaching and floating upwards, maybe with sodium inside...

Explode the base in the water while it is upside down to have bubble spread along its base

I might put one as a trek saucer lower sensor dome that turns into a phaser/torp turret.
