Disaster but hope.

I have been building the PNT NX01 in 1400 as part of my 1400 Enterprise fleet,

The construction went well and I decided to paint it in Alclad metal finishes, I am new to this product and it shows! I base coated in black microfiller, light then light sanding before the black gloss coat. I then sprayed the entire ship in Magnesium. This looked good and I had already started to trace the provided aztec pattern to a masking sheet. This was very tedious and did not really work for me as some of thr detail is extremely small and my eyesight is not what it used to be. I elected to do my own masking in 1mm tape a build a pattern.
I masked the entire upper hull and nacelles and mixed a darker version of the magnesium base with some gloss black.

I applied this and let it dry for 24hrs. I started to peel off the masks and it looked promising to me until disaster. All coats on one area lifted back to the resin!!! I think I didnt rub down the resin as well, I was going to try mask that area and re-layer the coats but I think it might be safer to rub her back and start over from scratch. Any comments or suggestions welcome

Stick with it! I tell my friends that building a model is a gradually escalating series of disasters that you have to overcome, one by one, until finally it's done and you can quit.

Surprisingly, none of them have taken up the hobby

I think I probably should sand it back and start again. Then put a coat of clear over the Magnesium hull colour before masking and applying the darker coat.

One, make sure your resin is clean. A wipe down with lacquer thinner usually does it. Do not soak it in lacquer thinner.

If you can, use a primer made for use on resin. Mr. Color/GSI Creos makes one.

While it is best to let the gloss coat fully cure before applying paint you should pull masks off after 1/2 hour or so with lacquers.

Yes, a clear coat can help but because the paint pulled up all the way back to resin says there was some contamination on the surface.

Thanks for the tip on removing the masks so soon!!

I had washed her down but must have missed something or got my priming wrong.

I have cleaned her back and have a good automotive primer I have used successfully on resin and plastic kits before.

Glossed up and a bit of pre-shading in gloss white and blended in to hopefully give a look of a the hull been lit by running lights.
