Scratchbuilding article
I wrote an Instructable about scratchbuilding that folks here might find interesting:
https://www.instructables.com/id/Sci-Fi ... el-Making/
Its a general overview that covers basic styrene fabrication, vacuum-forming, kit bashing, and 3D printing, and uses a spaceship model that I built last year as the example.

Re: Scratchbuilding article
Hey, pretty cool. Interesting about scaling the whole deal to work with that one part. Expect that is fairly common in this sort of thing.

Its a hobby... if it stops being fun.... you're doing it wrong!

Thank you for doing this and for sharing it.

The right-angle gluing jig is something I need to make right away.

Re: Scratchbuilding article
I hope it's not "hijacking", but I think that thread serves well to post more articles or in my case videos about interesting scratchbuilding ideas. Found this CTG guy on YouTube and he certainly has some interesting tips and tricks for scratchbuilding. Well worth to check out some of his vids.

Re: Scratchbuilding article - Greeblie Guidelines
I was going to start a new thread, but I think this link would fit quite nicely under this thread
The blogger "mung" (who is listed as a member, but not a poster) has an extensive set of kitbash projects documented on his site - RC Sci Fi. He has also posted a "Model Kit Part Detailing Guide" where he documents some good rules of thumbs for SF kitbash detailing.
The site is also fairly replete with several inventive kitbashes which can be very inspirational (or inspire one to hoard too much junk such as a dead vacuum cleaner on the off chance it might make a neat star battlecruiser )

Re: Scratchbuilding article
He is running out of plastic spoons there--as per the RPF. I love his TTA work--and he has turned Barbie into a smuggler with one of his ships based on a toy. I put a spoon on the flat underside of a computer mouse and it pops to life...
Re: Scratchbuilding article
The instructable from PjF is still up and the link to McMaster Carr is still intact.
What an excellent article!
