removing electrolplate from parts

Well, the Castrol Super Clean I found is I think is the same stuff. It's got the active chemicals in it someone mentioned the old stuff had. So, I think it should work fine removing the electroplating and I think it will take paint off too without destroying plastic parts. At least I hope it will. Worst case scenario I might have to hit some parts with oven cleaner. I swear that brake fluid was used as a paint stripper also, but maybe not? I thought I had read that somewhere a long time ago.

Brake fluid was noted as being used for stripping paint from plastic models at least as far back as 1980s model railroad magazines.

Not sure I read it there, but I thought I had. I seemed to remember it was used as a paint stripper, so...I can also use that for paint stripping. Probably takes days to remove paint like enamels and lacquers. I think I'll give this Castrol Super clean a shot to see if it removes the electroplating.

I prefer the Super Clean over brake fluid for sure. Brake fluid will work good for enamels, but then you need to clean off the brake fluid. For plated parts, I have had good results with Liquid Plumber, and when you are done with it you can use it for cleaning your drains,

What do you wash brake fluid off with? Just soap and water? Well, I was told that the Castrol Super Clean strips everything off. From the plating all the way down to the plastic (takes the coating off). I imagine I should be able to use it over and over before it loses its effectiveness? Never knew about Liquid plumber. Does it remove the undercoating that is applied to the electroplated parts, or just the electroplating?
