achieving "light gold"

Post by Digger1 »

The instructions for the PL refit say to paint the bridge light gold. How should I get a light gold? I looked in the acrylic paints section of Michael's. They has some goldish paints there but I just wanna make sure I get it right.

I was looking at a Model Master color called Champagne. Another method would be to mix some silver into gold and stir. More heavy on the gold side, maybe 70% gold to 30% silver.

Also your undercoat will affect the metallics. Gold over red will give more coppery tones, over silver will be more electrum, over white will pale it, over yellow will be like 24k over green will look like fake gold. The metallic paints are fairly translucent.

You could try Tamiya's Titanium Gold X-31, which is a pretty light gold. Compared to thier regular gold it's about 35% as goldish.

Champagne should be pretty light.
Stand back, I don't know how big this thing gets.
