I wanna know if you can safely thin putty somewhat to sort of ooze into cracks and holes.
It may be that thinner putty will shrink more because of the added liquid evaporation. Ya think?

What kind of putty are you using? And just how syrupy do you want it to be? I've used plain old Bondo and fingernail polish remover. It didn't seem to shrink any more that usual, but I didn't thin it too much. I added a few drops to a pea-sized blob of putty to make it spread out a little easier. No problems.
