Gunze Sangyo Bottle Paints

Post by Thomas E. Johnson »

I've never used these before. The guy that runs my local Hobbytown tells me they are the same thing as Tamyia acyrlic paints, and that Gunze Sangyo accualy makes all of Tamyia's paint, including their spray paint.
Are they Acyrilics like Tamyia?

Yes, they're acrylics like Tamiya. Bottle cap is the same thread also. And I wouldn't doubt that the same manufacturer makes both. Tamiya alwasy seems a bit thinner and has better consistancy, but that may just be my bias.

The Gunze paints are good. They come in water-based and lacquer-based types.

Gunze is in no way related to Tamiya, however. Two entirely different companies, paints come from two entirely different sources. They are major competitors here in Japan.

And they seem to mix well, too...as well as each other's thinner works for the other.

Testors and PolyScale are the same paint, too. Different lines, but same acrylics.

Gunze and Tamiya are equivalent - thin both with Isopropyl alcohol. They're my preferred brands. Gunze markets a wider variety of military colors, though.
