Point heat source

I am in need of a point heat source, something more manageable than a candle flame. Was thinking of using my soldering iron. Anyone have any thoughts, one way or another. What do you use of using heat to soften plastic so it can be distorted?

A small butane torch or lighter?

Flame wavers too much on a candle or lighter. Butane might run too hot.

I get tempted every time I see commercials for this gadget. Y'know what they say, if it sounds too good to be true...

Unless someone aboard here has tried one of these things and is willing to fess' up...

Maybe I'll try the mirco-torch. The soldering iron does give pin-point heat but takes for ever to heat up even a tiny section of styrene.

*sigh* trying to gently bend up some panel edges on the FMMF.

Robb, use the butane torch with a hot air concentrator.

The torch flame will be way too hot for the styrene, and will just scortch it, but the hot-air concentrator tip works miracles... It's how I altered the styrene edges for my M-wing.
