A very nice job explaining how a 1/48 B-29 was covered with kitchen foil,, and turned out looking great! I'll admit I've avoided silver finishes for decades, but this article makes me think it's possible:

I love natural-metal finishes, but I've always been lukewarm about most foil-covered models. In scales larger than 32nd, foil is better than any metalizer paint. In limited application (like a chrome bumper, heat shield or landing gear oleo) foil has no equal.

But complete and total coverage in 48th is just too darn shiny. There's no scale effect. It ceases to look like realistic NMF and instead looks like... a foil covered model.
