Is kyrlons' Matt spray the same as dull coat?

Matt, Dull, Flat they all mean the same thing.

Dullcoat (TM) is Testor's Lacquer Flat Finish in a spray-can.

Personally, I avoid the lacquers as I find they're a bit too hot for my use - though Testors does have its use in my techniques.

I thought as much. I did know that it was acrylic base and a bit cheaper than testors.

I use it almost exclusively

Yes, BUT shake it very well and be wary of "dandruff" and dustiness if you do any misting coats to lock pastels.

The dandruff can be removed after each coat the flakes appear in - it's like five at the most - with a tac rag.

The "dustiness" goes away as the coats are built up and can be buffed out too with a tac rag. Again, if you're misting to lock pastels down, be careful with the tac rag.

Eventually, you get a feel for it and the coats gets a verrry nice smooth, flat finish. Just don't forget the tac rag.

Also known as a "tack cloth", you should be able to find one where painting supplies, varnishes and the like are sold. Hardware store.
