wiring plug/Jack

Ok, Im using the voodoo Fx x-wing lighting kit to light my SMT Y-wing. I was going to run the wires to the base so the ship could not be removed, however, I was thinking, would it be possible to mount a plug in the bottom of the model that all the wires attached to and then an opposite plug/jack in the brass rod so 1, it would be easier to paint and 2, make the model possible to be removed from the base to admire at leisure?

Didn't someone do that to an x-wing a while back?

A plug can be used. I've seen the old SMT Y-wing and it's a bit heavy so just make sure the plug is soild. A 3.5 mm or 1/8 inch jack might be to thin. A 1/4 inch jack is pretty big.

I have this jack here that came off of a holloween display. It's basicaslly a Ps2 port plug with male and female ends. the male side only has 2 pins in it. If I got one of these with 6 pins wouldn't I just have to wire each set of wires to the corresponding pin and the plug should work?

where would someone get such a plug?

Serial port plugs can be found at most electronic's supply stores. Radio shack seems to be closing their stores. Maybe you can find all the parts there. If it is a regulare nine pin (sub-mini-D) job these usually are sold as the connector, and the housing separtely.

If you are talking about the DIN plugs these are usually sold as the connector (pins and housing). I've only ever seen the female in the chassis mount style but you can probably order it either way from an online supplier.

page 2 has a 5 pin DIN chassis mount (mounts with 2 little holes for screws or bolts)

A greater selection of chassis and cable mounting options for these connectors can be found from say digikey. Once you know the name of the plug style you want searching <A HREF="http://www.digikey.com/" target="_blank">digikey online</A> will be much easier.

I vote for DC power plugs too.

The one other thing I've seen that might work is a large audio jacks, those are so large that they're the stand and the power connection but you might have trouble hiding that inside the B-wing.
