Fiber Optic Question

Post by rockhopper »

Hi
I would like to use a small array of fiberoptic strands (between 8 and 12) on a model i am lighting.
The light sorce will be an LED.
What i want to know is how to connect the stands to the led so the light travels down the strands.
Is there some sort of jacket that holds the strands that the led pushes into?
Many Thanks

I would use heatshrink tubing.

Insert LED from one end, fibers from the other(nicely bundled) and than hit it with a hairdryer.

HTH.

A great source for the stuff you need is fiber optic lamps. They usually have a bundle of about 100 or so .012 fibers that are about 10 to 13 inches long. You can find them inexpensively at that auction site that shall not be named.

0.5mm fibre @ 12p pm - Maplins charge £1.08 a meter, go figure.
