everygoogle search I have tried comes up with mostly ohter search results. I don't want to go digging around too many doggy "FREE FREE FREE" sites as the more places you go the more chance of picking something unwanted up

Still haven't gotten used to using OpenOffice Draw. I'm more accustomed to using Corel Draw.
BTW, you can try looking around in the "budget software" shelves. I've noticed that there were one or two clipart selections which also had a copy of Arts & Letters Draw (the ones labelled as having "Flex-O-Matic" clipart are the ones that have Arts & Letters Draw) or some other orphanware. Speaking of orphanware... Many, many years ago (back in early 1990s) I picked up some orphanware from KeySoft called KeyDraw Plus (previously known as Artline from Digital Research) -- which turned out to be pretty good despite its age (was much more stable than the 2.x version of CorelDraw for Windows, and had a few more capabilities as well -- it also came bundled with Hijaak, which did a faily nice job in graphics format conversion).

Wikipedia has a list of free and commercial vector programs. Missing is IntelliCad2000 which was an AutoCAD clone that was freely available for a while. If you search, you can still find it. It is an AutoCAD clone... so its user interface feels like you're slamming your head against a brick wall every time you use it.
You can also search for CAD software and get more options. This page has a good list.
